Quebec City, December 4, 2024 – At the 18th edition of the Quebec City Healthcare Industry Forum (FISQ), Christopher Skeete, Minister for the Economy, Minister responsible for the Fight against Racism and Minister responsible for the Laval region, and Annie-Kim Gilbert, President and CEO of MEDTEQ+, the pan-Canadian consortium for industrial research and innovation in health technologies, announced the launch of a new call for projects under the theme of women’s health (FEMTECH). This call for projects aims to support collaborative projects led by Quebec companies to scale up FEMTECH solutions that can improve women’s health and help the growing needs in this sector.
“It’s important for our government to provide an environment favorable to the growth of life sciences companies, a strategic sector in Quebec. By supporting the MEDTEQ+’s initiative, we are encouraging innovation in healthcare and the development of technologies that will contribute to improving the well-being of women,” says Christopher Skeete, Minister for the Economy, Minister responsible for the Fight against Racism and Minister responsible for the Laval region.
“Our team, in collaboration with the ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie (MEIE), is proud to launch this call for projects to support local organizations and accelerate innovations that will transform and enhance women’s health in Quebec. This essential initiative reflects our shared desire to encourage innovative and concrete solutions in prevention, care and women’s well-being. We invite our ecosystem to contribute so that together we can build a future where women’s specific health needs are fully considered and equitable,” says Annie-Kim Gilbert, PhD, President and CEO, MEDTEQ+.
Innovations resulting from this call for projects could promote access to reproductive health services, contribute to screening for women’s specific cancers, improve post-natal follow-up services, adjust mental health interventions to women’s needs (anorexia, bulimia, psychological distress), and support the development of knowledge on emerging needs in women’s health and well-being.
Successful projects will be funded by the Programme de soutien aux organismes de recherche et d’innovation – Soutien aux projets de recherche en collaboration avec le milieu (PSOv2) of the ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie. The grant can cover up to 40% of eligible expenses for academic and clinical partners in Quebec, depending on the category of industrial partner. The maximum value of the grant is $500,000 per year, for a maximum of 3 years, or $1.5 million per project.
As a Regroupement sectoriel de recherche industrielle (RSRI), MEDTEQ+ will mobilize its ecosystem, participate in the structuring and follow-up of projects, and provide visibility for the initiative and selected projects to maximize reach. MEDTEQ+ encourages all innovative organizations developing solutions dedicated to women’s health to express their interest in participating in this call. They will have two opportunities to submit their project: March 3 and May 12, 2025.
