Real-time intra-operative spectroscopic tumor margin detection in prostate cancer patients

Summary

Positive prostate tumor margins at surgery are a strong indicator of incomplete resection
that often lead to disease recurrence and the need for repeat treatment. Biochemically sensitive in vivo optical spectroscopy will be evaluated for intraoperative identification of the full extent of cancer in patients during robotic radical prostatectomy.
